The Albanian Theater in Skopje (originally the Theater of Minorities, later Theater of Nationalities) is one of the most significant architectural achievements of Vera Kjosevska and Ljubinka Malenkova. The Theater of Nationalities is a cultural institution embedded in the historical core of the city, which builds on the surrounding cultural and historical content. It was built in the immediate vicinity of the Skopje Old Bazaar and "Bitpazar", almost on the exact location where the old theater was located, destroyed in the earthquake.
The theater building marked the mature phase of the modern design experiment of the authors and is characterized by a special architectural expression that is more lyrical, more rhythmic and much more emotional than the rest of their work. The architecture of the Theater of Nationalities is geometrically expressive, with accentuated dynamic masses, which functionally correspond to the complex program in the interior. The total usable area of about 4,500 m2 is organized in a seemingly symmetrical plan and is clearly organized in several program units: the auditorium with 350 seats, entrance rooms, wardrobes and lobbies are in the first part; the stage, the stage tower and the wardrobes are in the second part, and the administration is in the third. Particular attention in the design and construction is paid to the stage itself, equipped with state-of-the-art technical equipment at the time of construction, such as a rotating platform with a diameter of almost 12 meters.
The Theater of Nationalities was opened in 1974, with a performance by the Albanian drama ensemble of the play "Vuchjak" by Croatian author Miroslav Krleža. The ensembles of the Albanian and Turkish theaters have been working in it for many years. Since 2014, the building has been undergoing a process of renovation and modernization and today it houses the Albanian Theater.
